In a season with little to cheer, perhaps the most appropriate Mizzou Tiger is up for a national award -- the punter.

For the second year in a row, sophomore Corey Fatony has been named a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation's top punter. Fatony was one of 66 punters selected to the 2016 list.

The Tigers have leaned on Fatony for favorable field position while struggling on both sides of the ball, and he has responded. Fatony ranks 20th in the nation and fourth in the SEC in punting with a 44.3-yard average. Of his 49 punts, 13 have gone for 50-plus yards and 18 have been downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line. He had just one touchback through Mizzou's first seven games (40 punts).

Ten semifinalists will be announced Nov. 11. Following the announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the three finalists, who will be identified Nov. 22. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner, who will be revealed Dec. 8.
