MLB Quick Hits: Braves' Freeman still out

Published Jun. 22, 2015 6:34 a.m. ET

Braves 1B Freddie Freeman hasn't played since Wednesday because of a sprained right wrist, and he wasn't even able to swing without discomfort on Sunday. Freeman will have an MRI today, but with this level of uncertainty, you'll want to bench him in weekly leagues unless your alternatives are terrible.

In other news ...

Mets closer Jeurys Famila (groin) missed the weekend, but is expected to be ready to go on Tuesday.

In other Mets news, C Travis d'Arnaud (elbow) should also return on Tuesday, and 2B/3B Daniel Murphy (quad) is targeting a weekend activation from the DL.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Jose Altuve (hamstring) should be ready to play tonight, but will ask to bat eighth. If that actually happens, Altuve won't be a good DFS play.

As promised, the Cubs have sent catching prospect Kyle Schwarber back to the minors. He'll be a good one someday, maybe as early as 2016.

Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis (shoulder) could come off the DL any day now. Travis had two hits with a walk in his latest Triple-A rehab game on Sunday.

Reds C Devin Mesoraco is scheduled for June 29 hip surgery. We'll see him again next season.

By the way, my buddy D.J. Foster covered much of the weekend activity in his Sunday post. The amazing J.D. Martinez was just one of his topics.

Streaming starter update: Rubby De La Rosa was pretty good on Friday and Taijuan Walker whiffed 11 batters on Saturday. Pretty good, right? Yes, unless you used our Sunday pick of Charlie Morton, who gave up nine runs in two thirds of an inning against the Nationals. Um, sorry about that.

DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, salaries from DraftKings): Kershaw or Felix for high prices against decent opponents, or a cheaper Michael Pineda ($9,300) versus the lowly Phillies? I think I'll try Felix/Pineda for combined $20,200, and see if I can build with some cheap bats ... Hey, it's Ryan Raburn ($2,800) against a lefty day! ... The Angels, Indians and Yankees look like your best stacks ... 3B Trevor Plouffe ($4,000) looks like a good 3B play against John Danks; so does Carlos Santana ($4,300) vs. Tiger southpaw Kyle Ryan ... Angels 2B Johnny Giavotella ($2,900) hits lefties pretty well, and bats leadoff sometimes. If he's atop the order tonight, he's a great play ... Mike Aviles ($3,200) can cover either 3B or SS at a good price ... I like Yasiel Puig ($4,000) against Tsuyoshi Wada ... If you plan to pay up for an outfielder, Mike Trout ($5,300) and Brett Gardner ($5,200) are obvious choices, but George Springer ($4,600) is a pretty good choice as well.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
