MLB Quick Hits: Bucs lose 3B Harrison to DL
Pirates 3B Josh Harrison has been having another strong fantasy season, batting .279 with four home runs, nine stolen bases and 39 runs scored. Unfortunately, the good times have come to a halt for Harrison, who is expected to miss up to six weeks with a torn ligament in his left thumb. Jung Ho Kang will get most of Harrison's at bats and isn't a terrible fantasy option, but outside of a brief hot streak in May, he hasn't hit much. Other Harrison replacement ideas include speedy Phillie Cesar Hernandez (owned in 35.8 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, eligible at 2B/3B/SS), Justin Turner (28 percent owned) and Jake Lamb (4 percent owned).
In other news ...
Pirates OF Starling Marte on the discomfort in his left side: ""I don't think I'll go to the (disabled list) ... We'll see in a couple more days. It bothers me when I swing, when I run, when I breathe. Everything. It hurts." Marte might not think he needs a DL stint, but he might get one.
Jake Odorizzi pitched well in a Monday rehab start, and is expected to rejoin the Rays' rotation on Saturday.
There are two doubleheaders (Cardinals-Cubs starting at 1:20 p.m. ET, Rays-Royals at 2:10 p.m. ET). Set your lineups accordingly.
Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) might be ready to come off the DL later this week after hitting well in a Monday BP session.
Royals SP Yordano Ventura will come off the DL to start on Thursday. Teammate Mike Moustakas is on the family emergency/bereavement list and figures to miss a couple days, while OF Lorenzo Cain is day-to-day with a leg injury.
Brewers SP Matt Garza is on the DL with right shoulder tendinitis, but will probably miss only one start. Rookie Tyler Cravy slides into Garza's rotation slot tonight against the Braves, but is not worth getting excited about.
After Monday's gem, Cardinals SP John Lackey is 7-5 with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Better than you thought, right?
Streaming starter update: Eric Surkamp didn't start Monday for the Dodgers, and we hope you didn't sign on for his underwhelming relief appearance. Today's pick is Boston's inconsistent Wade Miley (5.7 percent owned) vs. the Stanton-less Marlins.
DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, salaries from DraftKings): If you spend the $14,200 on Max Scherzer, some less expensive sidekicks are Taijuan Walker ($8,200), Brett Anderson ($7,600) and Miley ($6,200) ... Rockies C Wilin Rosario ($3,600) has historically been a lefty killer, and he faces Angels rookie Andrew Heaney tonight ... In other Rockies' news, Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado are both reasonable at $4,800 ... We keep playing the amazing Cesar Hernandez ($3,100) until his price goes up ... Rays DH Grady Sizemore is $2,600, and has batted leadoff in his last two games ... Dodgers SP Brett Anderson is no pushover, but Phillies 1B/OF Darin Ruf ($2,700) has a .382 wOBA in 184 career plate appearances vs. LHP ... Adrian Gonzalez at $3,800 vs. Chad Billingsley? Really?
See you back here tomorrow morning.
