MLS Roundup: Drogba scores fifth goal as Impact defeat Fire
Montréal Impact 2 -- Chicago Fire 1
Andrés Romero placed the Impact on the cusp of a playoff berth by scoring a late winner at Stade Saputo. Montréal labored for much of the night against a Fire side playing its first match under interim boss Brian Bliss. Didier Drogba eased some of the tension when he threw Jeff Larentowicz to the side and tucked home his fifth goal in five games just before halftime. David Accam issued the Fire’s response five minutes after halftime to give the visitors a foothold. Romero eventually separated the sides for good when he latched onto a throughball by the returning Patrice Bernier and slotted home the winner after 76 minutes. Montréal managed to hold out in the late stages to secure the points despite a red card to Laurent Ciman in second-half stoppage time.
Houston Dynamo 1 -- Sporting Kansas City 0
Houston kept its flickering postseason hopes alive with a victory over Sporting KC at BBVA Compass Stadium. Both team slogged through a typically robust affair with only one goal necessary to separate the teams on the night. Will Bruin provided the difference when he drifted free at the back post and poked home DaMarcus Beasley’s cross after 67 minutes. Boniek Garcia procured a second booking shortly thereafter, but Sporting KC failed to muster the equalizer required to snatch something from the game. The effects of this defeat stretch into the weekend for Sporting KC: Matt Besler and Benny Feilhaber are both ruled out against Seattle on Sunday after triggering one-match suspension for caution accumulation.
