MLS Roundup: United, Hamid turn one shot into victory at Montréal
D.C. United 1 -- Montréal Impact 0
United became the first MLS team to win a match with just one shot after somehow emerging triumphant at Stade Saputo. Chris Rolfe took full advantage of that one attempt as he benefited from some slack Impact work at the back and tucked past Evan Bush to separate the sides. Montréal piled forward for the remainder of the game, but Bill Hamid produced eight saves to prevent the Impact from securing an equalizer.
Toronto FC 1 -- Sporting Kansas City 3
Benny Feilhaber scored one goal and set up another as Sporting exposed TFC’s rickety defense at BMO Field. Feilhaber opened the scoring after 22 minutes when he slotted a penalty past Joe Bendik after Ahmed Kantari fouled Kevin Ellis. TFC produced an immediate response when Michael Bradley rounded off a fine passing move. Krisztian Nemeth restored the Sporting lead when he headed home Feilhaber’s free kick just before the half-hour. Jacob Peterson eventually guaranteed the victory with a late third to claim all three points.
Colorado Rapids 1 -- Columbus Crew SC 2
Kei Kamara continued his fine form in front of goal to propel Crew SC to three precious points in Commerce City. The victory required a firm second-half response after Bobby Burling headed the Rapids in front shortly before halftime. Kamara produced the initial response from a Tony Tchani pass seven minutes after halftime and then swept home from close range just after the hour to complete the comeback. The former Middlesbrough forward now tops the MLS scoring charts with 17 goals on the season.
Houston Dynamo 2 -- San Jose Earthquakes 1
Alex struck for the first time as a Dynamo player to lift Houston over 10-man San Jose at BBVA Compass Stadium. The home side looked on course for victory after DaMarcus Beasley opened the scoring in the 55th minute and Fatai Alashe procured a second booking five minutes later. Quincy Amarikwa responded for the visitors when he turned home from close range with 20 minutes to play, but former Fire midfielder Alex pounced in the final quarter of an hour to give the Dynamo a necessary victory.
Orlando City 0 -- Philadelphia Union 0
Both teams settled for a point after a lifeless draw at the Citrus Bowl. The two teams mustered a combined nine shots on the day in a match lacking incisiveness and thrust. Sebastian Le Toux came closest to tipping the balance when he hit the post in the first half. Cyle Larin also headed over the bar after the interval as the tattered expansion side eventually claimed a point.
Vancouver Whitecaps 4 -- Real Salt Lake 0
The home side breezed to victory against the shorthanded Claret-and-Cobalt at B.C. Place. Octavio Rivero handed the Whitecaps the perfect start when he converted a suspect penalty after just seven minutes. Pa Modou Kah scored his third goal in two games shortly before halftime to place the Whitecaps in command. Cristian Techera grabbed a pair of goals after the interval to bolster the margin of victory. Abdoulie Mansally received a late red card to compound RSL’s misery. RSL will hope to bounce back quickly with a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal against Sporting Kansas City ahead in midweek.
