Moustakas, Volquez named June's top Royals player and pitcher
The Kansas City Royals announced that third baseman Mike Moustakas is the Royals Majestic Player of the Month for June, while right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez is the club's Pitcher of the Month.
The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.
Moustakas led the team with a .299 batting average and 15 RBIs, his highest monthly total since reaching the majors in 2011. This is his second career Royals Player of the Month honor; he also won in April.
Volquez is the Pitcher of the Month in his third month with the Royals. He compiled a 4-1 mark, with his win total tying for first in the major leagues. Volquez, who will turn 32 on Friday, won four straight starts from June 10-26, including three on the road.
