Myers, Stanton, Trumbo highlight 2016 Home Run Derby participants
SAN DIEGO -- Major League Baseball announced Thursday the eight participants for the 2016 Home Run Derby at Petco Park.
San Diego Padres first baseman Wil Myers, who is making the first All-Star Game appearance of his career, will represent the host city on Monday evening. Myers has led the Padres this year with 19 home runs, highlighted by a franchise record 11 in June.
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo, who leads the majors with 26 home runs, will also participate, while last season's champion Todd Frazier, now with the Chicago White Sox, will look to defend his title. Frazier has 23 home runs on the season.
Perhaps the participant that people are looking forward to seeing most on Monday night is Giancarlo Stanton, whose raw power and massive home runs have awed fans throughout his career. With Petco Park's Western Metal Supply building towering over the left field line, there has been much anticipation over how far up the brick building some right-handers can hit their home runs.
Also participating on Monday night will be Carlos Gonzalez from the Colorado Rockies, Robinson Cano from the Seattle Mariners, Corey Seager from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Adam Duvall from the Cincinnati Reds.
