NAU takes down Embry-Riddle on Navajo Nation

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. -- Kris Yanku scored 17 with seven assists and Ako Kaluna finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and four steals to help Northern Arizona beat Embry-Riddle 90-57 Friday night.

Yanku made 5 of 6 field goals for the Lumberjacks (1-3), who won at the BeeHoldzil Fighting Scouts Events Center on the Navajo Nation.

"Tonight was amazing," NAU coach Jack Murphy said. "It's a beautiful arena. There are wonderful people here and they're great basketball fans. There's a line of people here right now waiting in line for autographs. It's great to see a passion for basketball here on the Navajo Nation that's unrivaled."

Nick Agostino finished with 18 points and seven rebounds while Anthony Jensen hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points for Division II Embry-Riddle.

Northern Arizona took a 12-point lead into halftime, used a 19-6 to open up a 69-43 cushion with 6:49 to play and led by as many as 35.

The Lumberjacks made 20 of 35 (57 percent) second-half field goals, including eight 3-pointers, and shot 54 percent overall.

"It's a really cool experience to be able to come out here and play a game," Yanku said. "Their facilities are great and I enjoyed being able to take part."

Embry-Riddle shot just 37 percent, including 7 of 27 (25.9) from 3-point range.
