NBA Summer League recap: Timberwolves 80, Spurs 71

Adreian Payne turned in his best performance of the summer on Wednesday, scoring 20 points to help lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to an 80-71 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

It was the Wolves' first win of this year's NBA Summer League, and their second game following the loss of first-round pick Kris Dunn to a concussion.

Payne led both teams with seven rebounds, adding two assists and two blocks.

Guard Coty Clarke scored 16 points after spending last season with Capitanes de Arecibo of the Puerto Rican League, while Xavier Silas of the NBA D-League's Bakersfield Jam scored 10 points.

Guard Jonathan Simmons led the Spurs in scoring with 19 points.

Starting five: Payne started at center alongside Scott Suggs and Devin Thomas in the frontcourt, while Silas and second-year guard Tyus Jones started in the backcourt.

Rookie report: Dunn remains sidelined with a concussion, but Jones, a first-round pick in 2015, turned in another strong performance, scoring 15 points and racking up nine assists in the win.

Stats corner: The Wolves shot 42.5 percent (31-of-73) from the field, while shooting 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from 3-point range... Despite Payne's big game San Antonio outscored Minnesota 38-34 in the paint thanks to a 13-9 edge in offensive rebouns... The Wolves had the edge in fast break points at 8-2
