New Mexico State heads to Texas State with winning momentum

New Mexico State tries to build some momentum from its first victory of the season as it travels to San Marcos, Texas, to play Texas State at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Aggies (1-7, 1-3 Sun Belt Conference) are coming off a come-from-behind 55-48 overtime victory over Idaho. Sophomore Larry Rose III rushed for 212 yards and fourth touchdowns in the victory, boosting his season total to 1,083 yards. He's the first Aggie to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since Denvis Manns (1995-98). Andrew Allen complemented Rose with 300 passing yards and three touchdown passes.

"Idaho came in with a two- game winning streak, playing with a lot of confidence and to get down like we did and come back, I think that really says something about the character of our football team, character of our coaches and our administration and particularly the future of this football program," New Mexico State coach Doug Martin said. "There's no better way to win a game and to start building something in a football program than be able to come from behind and win.

"We've got the best running back in the Sun Belt conference, and he might be the best running back in the nation. He's not just special on game day, he's special every day."

Texas State is 2-5 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt play after losing 37-13 last week to Georgia Southern. Texas State won last year's meeting between the two teams, 37-29.
