NFL Quick Hits: Falcons' Freeman ruled out
Happy Black Friday, everyone! I hope you're planning to buy me great discount items at the stores today.
Let's start the Week 12 news & notes with fantasy's top player. Falcons RB Devonta Freeman suffered a concussion early in last week's game, and has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Vikings. I've got Tevin Coleman at RB21, and since he's owned in just 40.9 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, it's worth checking your free-agent pool to see if he's still available.
In other news ...
The Falcons signed PK Shayne Graham, as Matt Bryant is suffering from a hamstring injury, so make sure to get Bryant out of your lineups. Also, Falcons WR Leonard Hankerson (hamstring) has also been ruled out.
Cowboys QB Tony Romo is done for the season after re-injuring his left clavicle. You can cut Romo, and look for the Cowboys to stay run-heavy with Matt Cassel. Also, since we should still have little faith in Darren McFadden carrying a sustained, heavy workload, stashing Robert Turbin on fantasy benches is a good idea.
More Thursday nuggets: Matthew Stafford is obviously playing well, but let's not expect this every week, The Eagles' D is especially bad ... RB Ameer Abdullah led the Lions' backs with 16 carries. If you've been waiting for them to get him more involved, it's clearly been happening over the last two games ... Panthers CB Josh Norman shut down Dez Bryant, and was happy to discuss it with media following the game ... I was hesitant to trust Eddie Lacy this week, and that was clearly a bad call ... Matt Forte had 16 touches on 38 snaps for the Bears, while Jeremy Langford got 13 touches on 31 snaps. That doesn't clear up anything for fantasy owners.
Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) practiced on Thursday, and it's looking good for him to play Sunday night.
Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) hasn't practiced this week, and is listed as questionable. Don't expect West to play, and consider fill-in Spencer Ware as a high-end flex option.
Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) returned to practice on Thursday, and even though he was limited, he's looking good for Sunday's matchup in Denver.
Rex Ryan wants Tyrod Taylor to get the ball to Sammy Watkins more. So do we, Rex. So do we.
Redskins CB Chris Culliver is done for the season with a torn ACL. This defense was already struggling, and will get no mercy on Sunday from Odell Beckham Jr.
The Jets are likely to be without CB Darrelle Revis (concussion) against the Dolphins. Jarvis Landry's fantasy fortunes are looking up as a result.
In case you missed it, Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch had sports hernia surgery this week. The hope is that he'll be ready by Week 17, but that doesn't help most fantasy owners. There's no need to hold Lynch at this point.
DFS notes (salaries from DraftKings): There are lots of reasonably priced RBs available. Buck Allen ($4,600), Thomas Rawls ($4,500), Tevin Coleman ($4,300), Ronnie Hillman ($4,000) and Shaun Draughn ($3,800) can all help you save money elsewhere. Don't laugh at Draughn, who caught eight passes last week ... Don't hesitate to start Texans QB Brian Hoyer ($5,000) vs. the horrible Saints. He'll help you afford WR DeAndre Hopkins ($9,100) in your stack ... If Amendola plays, he's a fine option at $4,700 ... As one of the last men standing in Baltimore, TE Crockett Gillmore ($3,700) carries a good price ... If you don't want to spend big on the Cardinals' DST, the Bengals ($3,000) and Chiefs ($2,800) are good plays.
Need help over the weekend? Find us on Twitter (@jhalpin37, @FOXSportsFowler, @FOXSportsMeyer, @FOXSportsFoster), check out our Week 12 rankings and come to our chat on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. ET (I'll have the 11 o'clock hour). We'll have your questions covered, but can't stress enough that waiting until 15 minutes before kickoff is a bad plan.
Good luck this week!
