Ohio State scores two late to top Wisconsin 3-2
MADISON, Wis. – Ohio State scored twice in the final five minutes to rally past Wisconsin in the Big Ten opener Friday at the Kohl Center.
With the Badgers leading 2-1 in the final period, the Buckeyes surged late as John Wiitala and Mason Jobst each scored in the last minutes to take the series opener, 3-2.
Wisconsin's Trent Frederic found the back of the net first, scoring 7:38 into the second period.
The Badgers tied it 1-1 at the 14:31 mark of the second off Jobst's first goal of the night.
Wisconsin reclaimed the lead midway through the third frame, scoring on a penalty shot by Tarek Baker.
Goaltender Kyle Hayton made 21 saves in the defeat.
Wisconsin (1-1-0, 0-1-0 Big Ten) returns to the ice on Saturday at 5 p.m. looking for a series split with the Buckeyes (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Big Ten).
