New York Red Bulls 4 -- New York Cosmos 1

Sacha Kljestan inspired the Red Bulls to a second derby victory inside a week and issued a response after the defeat to the Cosmos in this competition last year with a comprehensive triumph at Red Bull Arena. Lloyd Sam handed the home side the perfect start when he set the stage for Sal Zizzo's opener. Lucky Mkosana responded after 16 minutes to bring the home side level, but Anatole Abang restored the lead with a header from a Kljestan corner shortly before halftime. Kljestan converted from the spot seven minutes after play resume to create some latitude before Mike Grella secured a place in the last eight with his strike in the final 10 minutes.

LA Galaxy 1 -- San Jose Earthquakes 0

In the second California Clasico inside a week, the Galaxy emerged victorious through an early Jose Villarreal goal. Villarreal collected a Kenney Walker ball over the top and thrashed home in the first five minutes to provide the Galaxy with the eventual margin of victory. Mark Sherrod had a potential equalizer ruled out for offside on the half-hour, but the Quakes could not produce the response necessary to avoid a fifth-round exit.

Sporting Kansas City 6 -- FC Dallas 2

Dom Dwyer hit a first-half hat trick to power a full-strength Sporting side past FC Dallas at sold-out Sporting Park. Dwyer continued his recent run of good form by staking his side to an early lead and then striking twice more before the break to place Sporting on course for the last eight. Krisztian Nemeth supplemented the advantage either side of half-time to make it 5-0 before Michael Barrios pulled a goal just after the hour. Dwyer snatched his fourth from a free kick moments later. Kellyn Acosta procured a second for FCD after 74 minutes, but his tally could not stop FCD from crashing out of the Open Cup.

Real Salt Lake 2 -- Portland Timbers 0

RSL relied on a pair of second-half goals to dispatch the Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium. Sebastian Jaime continued his recent run of form in front of goal when he collected Olmes Garcia's pass and slotted home the opener before the hour. Javier Morales doubled the advantage from the spot to ensure a home date with LA Galaxy in the quarterfinals.
