Packers sign Bakhtiari to contract extension

The Green Bay Packers shored up their offensive line on Tuesday, signing tackle David Bakhtiari to a contract extension worth up to $51.67 million over four years.

A fourth-round draft pick of the Packers in 2013, Bakhtiari has started 47 regular-season games at left tackle for Green Bay, second on the offensive line only to guard T.J. Lang over that span.

Bakhtiari was named an alternate for the Pro Bowl in 2014 after starting all 16 games for the Packers, who ranked No. 1 in the league in points per game that season with 30.4.

His teammates expressed support for the signing on social media, including Lang, fellow tackle Bryan Bulaga, guard Lane Taylor and linebacker Datone Jones.

The Packers' offensive line was in the spotlight last week, when guard Josh Sitton was cut and later signed by the Chicago Bears.
