The Green Bay Packers on Wednesday signed linebacker Jordan Tripp to their active roster. The Packers had an open spot on the 53-man roster with the recent four-game suspension of Mike Pennel.
Tripp had been waived off injured reserve by Seattle earlier this week.
The Packers have been hurting at inside linebacker this season with starters Blake Martinez and Jake Ryan both missing time. Backup Joe Thomas has played nearly every snap in recent weeks and the team has been forced to use safety Morgan Burnett at linebacker as well. Clay Matthews has experience inside, but the team prefers him on the outside plus he saw limited snaps this past Sunday against Seattle due to a shoulder injury. The other backup, Carl Bradford, has barely played on defense since being promoted to the active roster last month.
In his third season out of Montana, Tripp appeared in seven games with the Seahawks this season with one start, recording one tackle.
Tripp began his career with Miami after being selected in the fifth round of the 2014 draft. He played 13 games that season with the Dolphins, recording three tackles. In 2015, he was with Jacksonville, appearing in 12 games with 14 tackles. Tripp did make one start at middle linebacker with the Jaguars.
Tripp played at Montana from 2009-13 and was a starter for two seasons. He left the Grizzlies with 335 tackles, 11 sacks, 29.5 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles.
