Packers snap counts: Lowry becoming part of defensive rotation
The Green Bay Packers had two fourth-round picks in this past year's NFL Draft, selecting linebacker Blake Martinez and defensive end Dean Lowry.
Martinez quickly established himself as a starter before missing the last three games due to injury.
It's taken a while for Lowry to get going, but he has suddenly emerged as a part of Green Bay's defensive line rotation.
After playing a season-high 18 snaps (27 percent) in Week 13, Lowry played in 34 snaps (48 percent) against Seattle. He had two tackles and for the second straight week had a sack, as well as a quarterback hurry.
Some other notes from Sunday's snap counts:
-- First-round pick Kenny Clark had seen his playing time dip the past two games (13/22 percent vs. Philadelphia and 7/11 percent against Houston), but he was in on 25 snaps (35 percent) vs. Seattle and finished with four tackles.
-- Head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Ty Montgomery is now a running back. It appears that means James Starks is now third string. For the second straight week Starks was out-snapped by Montgomery and Christine Michael. Starks was in for just seven plays (12 percent), garnering two carries for three yards.
-- Wide receiver Geronimo Allison was in for 13 offensive plays (22 percent) after combining for 10 plays in the previous two games. He was not targeted.
-- Wide receiver Jeff Janis has not been in on a lot of offensive snaps recently. Since getting 44 plays vs. the Colts, Janis had 10 vs. Tennessee, 3 vs. Washington, 6 vs. Philadelphia, 2 vs. Houston and 3 vs. Seattle. However, he made the most of those three plays against the Seahawks, scoring on a 19-yard run.
-- Four players appeared in every defensive snap: Morgan Burnett, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Joe Thomas and Quinten Rollins. It was just the second time Rollins has been in on 100 percent of the defensive snaps; he also did it against the Giants.
-- Julius Peppers appeared in a season-high 95 percent of the defensive snaps but finished with just one assisted tackle. Nursing a sore shoulder, Clay Matthews had 24 snaps (34 percent) and recorded two tackles, a tackle for loss and a QB hurry.
