Packers Snap Counts: Randall struggles in spotlight

Published Sep. 20, 2016 10:40 a.m. ET

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers attempted to ease concerns about the team's offense following a 17-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but head coach Mike McCarthy's squad is facing plenty of questions heading into Week 3.

The passing game struggled despite an increased workload for top target Jordy Nelson, while tight end Jared Cook saw his timeshare with Richard Rodgers tilt a bit more in his favor.

On the defensive side Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs picked apart the Packers' depleted secondary, while a stout run defense held running back Adrian Peterson in check.

WEEK 2: VIKINGS (OFFENSE)

WEEK 2: VIKINGS (DEFENSE)

NOTES

-- Nelson saw his workload increase by 12 percent in Week 2, but he struggled to separate from the Vikinigs' defensive backs. His longest reception of the day went for 39 yards and set up a Packers score in the fourth quarter, as he outmuscled cornerback Trae Waynes.

-- The Packers dressed seven receivers on Sunday, while five saw the field on offense: Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Jared Abbrederis and rookie Trevor Davis.

-- Receiver Ty Montgomery was on the field for two 11 snaps in Week 1, but was used exclusively on special teams on Sunday night. He blocked a punt in the first quarter that set the Packers up on the Vikings' 45-yard line.

-- Abbrederis saw his usage cut in half after he appeared on 14 snaps in Week 1 and wasn't targeted, while Davis got his first offensive snaps. The Packers could look to work the rest of their receiver corps into the lineup with their offense struggling.

-- Tight end Jared Cook out-snapped Richard Rodgers again in Week 2. He was targeted six times, while Rodgers had just two targets.

-- Damarious Randall was the Packers' top cornerback with Sam Shields nursing a concussion. He was victimized routinely by Diggs, who racked up nine receptions, including the Vikings' second touchdown.
