Padres alumni to play MCAS Miramar All-Stars
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the return of their alumni softball game series with the first game of 2018 set for Thursday, May 10 at 12:45 p.m. when a team of Padres Alumni will take on a team of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar All-Stars on Field #4 at the Miramar Sports Complex. To commence the four-day celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the 1998 National League Championship team, members of the 1998 team participating in the game include Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman, Wally Joyner, Scott Sanders, Jim Leyritz, Dan Miceli, Mark Sweeney, Carlos Reyes, Archi Cianfrocco, Carlos Hernandez and Steve Finley. Other notable Padres Alumni participants include Heath Bell, Mark Loretta, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Brett Tomko. The MCAS Miramar All-Stars will be comprised of a team of Marines stationed on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Rules for the six-inning game will include the use of a designated hitter, a pitch ceiling of 10 feet and a five-run maximum per inning. The MCAS Miramar All-Stars will be managed by US Marine Corps Sergeant Major Peter Siaw, sergeant major of 3rd Marine Aircraft wing, Command Master Chief Donald Davis, command master chief of 3rd MAW, and Sergeant Major Michael Walton, sergeant major of MCAS Miramar. Padres public address announcer Alex Miniak will also be on-hand to provide live play-by-play commentary of the game. Marines and their families in attendance will be treated to food, kids activities, giveaways, live entertainment and a meet and greet with current Padres players, as well as members of the Padres Alumni team. The event is closed to the public and only open to active duty Marines and their families.
