SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Robbie Erlin and the San Diego Padres fell short in their attempt to get their first series win of the season.

Erlin allowed three home runs, two by Yasmany Tomas, who drove in three runs and scored three times to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-3 victory on Sunday.

Brandon Drury had a two-run homer, a triple and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who bounced back from Saturday night's 5-3, 14-inning loss to take two of three.

Patrick Corbin (1-1) outdueled Erlin (1-2) in a matchup of lefties, allowing three runs, one earned, and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.

"I kind of left the ball up, left it over the plate, worked behind certain times," Erlin said. "You always want to be the one dictating how the at-bat goes starting with strike one on the first pitch preferably."

Tomas, who defected from Cuba in 2013, had the first two-homer game of his two-season big league career. They were also his first of the season.

He hit a two-run drive to right with two outs in the first and a solo homer to right-center with one out in the sixth, both off Erlin. He also singled leading off the fourth and scored on Drury's homer to left, his first.

After Tomas homered in the sixth, Drury tripled to left and scored on Jake Lamb's groundout.

Erlin allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings, struck out four and walked one.

"I think Robbie gave us what he had today," manager Andy Green said. "Some days you get on the mound and you don't have your typical life, and usually on right-handed hitters he had a hard time getting the ball in there today. His curveball wasn't snapping. These are days as a manager you typically look at a guy and say this is probably going to be more of a short outing and you try to cover them with the bullpen.

"Today we frankly didn't have that luxury with where we went last night with 14 innings. Robbie stepped up gave us six innings, battled for us out there today. We've had good starting pitching, and there are going to be days like this where guys get hit and guys' stuff is less than ideal."

Arizona's Phil Gosselin homered leading off the eighth off Kevin Quackenbush.

San Diego scored two unearned runs in the first inning on two singles and two errors, including a throwing error by Corbin.

Melvin Upton Jr., who had a winning, two-run homer Saturday night, hit an RBI triple in the third to give the Padres a short-lived 3-2 lead.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Diamondbacks: RHP Shelby Miller is OK to make his next scheduled start Thursday at San Francisco. He left Saturday night's game in the second inning with cuts on his index finger after hitting the ground on his follow-through.

Padres: Green said RHP Tyson Ross, on the disabled list with an inflamed right shoulder, will start throwing in the next few days. He won't be ready to be activated on Wednesday when eligible.

UP NEXT

Diamondbacks: RHP Rubby De La Rosa was scratched from his scheduled start Monday night at San Francisco after pitching the final two-thirds of an inning and allowing Upton's winning homer. RHP Archie Bradley, recalled from Triple-A Reno on Sunday, is now scheduled to make the start, against Jake Peavy (0-1, 10.00).

Padres: After taking Monday off, San Diego opens a three-game home series against Pittsburgh with RHP Colin Rea (0-1, 5.56) facing LHP Francisco Liriano (1-0, 2.45).
