Padres' Justin Upton makes NL All-Star team
The National League All-Star team reserves were announced Monday night and San Diego outfielder Justin Upton was the lone Padres selection.
As of Monday afternoon, Upton leads the Padres in home runs (14), RBI (46), runs (44), hits (79) and stolen bases (16). This is Upton's third All-Star selection. He previously was named an All-Star in 2009 and 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Padre fans were hopeful that catcher Derek Norris would make the team alongside Upton, as he led all catchers with 20 doubles and ranked in the top five in RBI (45), hits (71) and runs (41). But Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants won the starting spot with Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals and Yasmani Grandal (LAD), a former Padre, getting the reserve spots.
The 2015 All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 14, live on FOX.
