On Monday, the Padres placed RHP Kirby Yates on the 10-day DL with right ankle tendinitis. LHP Buddy Baumann was called up from AAA to take his place.
The injury to Yates occurred during Saturday night's 1-0 loss against the Houston Astros. After going through his warmup routine in the 8th inning and throwing one pitch (an 89 mph fastball), the reliever was clearly in discomfort and left the game.
The injury comes after a very nice start to his season. In five early-season appearances, the right-hander allowed only one hit and struck out five.
