Panthers selling 'Spacey In Space' shirts for charity
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -- The must-have souvenir at Tuesday's Florida Panthers game?
A sweatshirt with an image of Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey's face on the front.
It started as a joke a couple weeks ago, when the Panthers issued a blue sweatshirt with "Spacey In Space" -- his face floating in outer space -- to the team's designated star of the game. After a win, that player would then hand the shirt off to someone else.
Spacey caught wind of it through social media, and whatever "Spacey In Space" means remains a mystery. Players have kept their fascination with it a closely guarded inside joke.
"I can't tell you why we got that jersey," Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov says, "but it's a pretty funny thing."
The shirts are $40. Proceeds go to the Florida Panthers Foundation and the Kevin Spacey Foundation. They went on sale at Panthers' games Tuesday.
