Panthers sign defenseman Jason Demers to 5-year deal

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Tom Rowe announced Saturday that the Panthers have signed defenseman Jason Demers to a five-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"We are excited to sign Jason and we are thrilled that he chose Florida," Rowe said. "He will play an integral role on our blue line and will help our transition game and special teams. This is another important signing for us this offseason."

The 28-year old Demers recorded 23 points (7-16-23) in 62 games with the Dallas Stars during the 2015-16 season. He played in 13 playoff games for Dallas, recording three assists in 13 games.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Dorval, Quebec has posted 143 points (28-115-143) in 423 NHL games with Dallas and the San Jose Sharks. He has recorded 3-9-12 in 52 career playoff games. Demers was originally selected by San Jose in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft.
