Rangers DFA Rodriguez and add two arms

ARLINGTON, Texas -- A tired Texas bullpen added a pair of fresh arms Wednesday as they recalled right-hander Jon Edwards and left-hander Alex Claudio from Round Rock.

To make room for the duo the Rangers sent right-hander Phil Klein back to Round Rock and designated lefty Wandy Rodriguez for assignment. Both Klein and Rodriguez pitched in relief in Tuesday's lopsided 21-5 loss to New York with Rodriguez allowing seven earned runs in his inning of work.

Rodriguez showed flashes in is 17 games with the Rangers, winning six times and posting a 4.90 ERA. But he lost his rotation spot with the return of Matt Harrison and allowed nine runs in his 2 1/3 innings of relief.

"To have a history with Wandy in Pittsburgh and knowing the guy, the character, the competitor in Wandy that took the ball for us," manager Jeff Banister said. "I think he knew the landscape for us with two guys on the DL that would be coming back, kind of understood where he was, and he went out and pitched as competitively as he could for us. When we asked him to go to the bullpen he didn't ask questions, he didn't wonder why. He was a true professional."

This is the third stint with the Rangers for Claudio, who was 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA in his first times with the club. Claudio was 3-1 with a 2.17 ERA over his last 22 outings for Round Rock.

Edwards is also in his third stint with the Rangers. He's been dominant in Triple A, posting a 1.80 ERA in 27 outings and registering 19 saves.

The moves leave Texas with 38 players on the 40-man roster.
