Rangers option Chi Chi Gonzalez, send out Tepesch

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Texas Rangers optioned Chi Chi Gonzalez to Triple-A Round Rock Friday, one day after he allowed one hit in five scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds.

The 2013 first-round pick was 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA in spring training. He went 4-6 with a 3.90 ERA as a rookie last year in 14 appearances, including 10 starts.

The Rangers also assigned right-hander Nick Tepesch to minor league camp. Tepesch, who did not pitch last year because of an elbow injury, had an 11.45 ERA in five outings, allowing 30 baserunners - 22 hits and eight walks - in 11 innings. Tepesch made 22 starts in 2014 and 17 in 2013 with the Rangers and had a 9-17 record with a 4.56 ERA.

The Rangers also sent Brett Nicholas to minor league camp.
