Rangers reliever Kela could miss 3 months with elbow spur

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Rangers reliever Keone Kela has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and could miss up to three months if he has surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

The Rangers put Kela on the DL before Thursday night's game against the Houston Astros, and recalled right-hander Phil Klein from Triple-A Round Rock.

Kela felt something wrong with his elbow when he last pitched Tuesday against Houston.

General manager Jon Daniels said the options for Kela include rest or surgery, with surgery being the most likely outcome. But an MRI showed no issues with any ligaments.

Kela appeared in seven of the Rangers' first 14 games. As a rookie last season, he was 7-5 with a 2.39 ERA in 68 appearances.
