ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Rays selected the contract of outfielder Freddy Guzman on Tuesday and added him to the active roster.

Guzman, 32, has played 47 games in the majors, his last an appearance on Oct. 3, 2009, against the Rays at Tropicana Field as part of the New York Yankees. Tampa Bay signed him to a major-league contract on Aug. 30 and has since worked at the Rays' complex in Port Charlotte, Fla.

In an 11-year minor league career, Guzman has earned 587 stolen bases, including 73 in 99 games for Ciudad del Carmen of the Mexican League this season.

The Rays transferred outfielder Brandon Guyer from the 15-day to the 60-day DL to make room for Guzman.

Infielder Tim Beckham was recalled and will be at the Rays-Rangers game Wednesday.

Right-hander Jake Odorizzi is expected to be recalled Friday.
