Minnesota Lynx star Maya Moore has been playing basketball in China during the offseason, but the Olympic ring she won as part of the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's basketball team last summer didn't make the trip overseas. In fact, she never received it to begin with.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 19-year-old Jamaal Dontray Taylor sold the ring for $144 to an Atlanta-area jeweler in November and was charged with theft by receiving stolen property when the jeweler called the police. According to the AJC, Taylor claimed the ring was his, even though he has a serious lack of Olympic experience.
According to the police, via the paper, a package that was supposed to contain Moore's ring was reported missing last fall from Moore's Atlanta-area home, She is likely to get her ring back.
Moore, 23, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft after leading Connecticut to a 150-4 record during her time at the university. She then helped the Lynx to a WNBA championship in 2011 and a WNBA Finals appearance in 2012 in addition to winning the gold medal in London last summer.
