Report: Twins to sign free-agent catcher Jason Castro

Published Dec. 9, 2016 12:37 p.m. ET

The Twins have agreed to terms with catcher Jason Castro, according to a report from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. It's reportedly in the 3-year, $24 million range.

Castro, 29, played 113 games for the Astros in 2016 where he batted .210/.307/.377 (88 OPS+) with 11 home runs.

It's the next in of a series of offseason moves under new chief baseball officer Derek Falvey and general manager Thad Levine. Castro is renown in the sabermetric community for his pitch framing skills. Both Falvey and Levine have made it well-known their intentions to use data as a factor of the decision-making process.
