Royals send down pitchers, trim spring training roster to 59

The Kansas City Royals decided to unload several pitchers to their minor league squads, trimming their spring training roster to 59 players.

The Royals optioned pitchers Arnaldo Hernandez, Ben Lively and Jake Newberry to Omaha (AAA) and assigned pitchers Jake Kalish and Andres Machado to minor league camp.

The Royals' 59-man camp roster includes right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn (60-day IL) and left-handed pitcher Eric Skoglund (restricted list).

Of the 59 players remaining, 37 of them are on the Major League Reserve List.
