Royalty: George Brett and Lorde finally meet
The meeting finally happened: Royals legend George Brett met and hung out with New Zealand teen sensation Lorde on Tuesday night in Las Vegas, according to TMZ.
TMZ reported that Lorde's people had asked Brett if he could meet Lorde before her concert that night, and he agreed.
Lorde had been in Kansas City for a concert in March, but Brett could not attend because he was with the team in spring training in Arizona. Brett instead sent an autographed jersey and framed photo to the singer.
Brett in a way was the inspiration for Lorde's megahit "Royals." She explained last year to VH1 that she got the idea for the song after seeing a photo in National Geographic of a "dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said 'Royals.' It was just that word."
Of course, as we know now, it was a photo of Brett signing autographs at then Royals Stadium (now named Kauffman Stadium).
