PHOENIX (AP) -- DeWayne Russell had 21 points, nine assists and four rebounds and Grand Canyon beat San Diego State 76-72 in a frantic finish on Wednesday night.

Trailing 74-72 with 10 seconds left, San Diego State's Jeremy Hemsley attempted to split a double team but Fiifi Aidoo stole the ball for a layup and the game's final margin.

DeWayne Russell's jumper with 12:47 to play gave Grand Canyon (4-4) a 55-44 lead but the Aztecs only needed a couple of minutes to go on an 11-0 run to knot the game. Zylan Cheatham made a layup and a pair of free throws, Hemsley hit a pair of 3s, and Valentine Izundu added a free throw during the run.
