Russell Westbrook adds to imprint on fashion world
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Westbrook Frames, the eyewear company Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook co-owns, has added 15 new sunglasses frames to its Gold Series, adding to his growing imprint on the fashion world.
The unisex styles, designed and crafted by Westbrook and Selima Optique founder Selima Salaun, are named for locations tied to Westbrook's California roots -- Compton, Venice, Gardena, Bel Air and Calabasas. Westbrook Frames co-founder Marc Beckman calls the Gold Series their core assortment.
This is the first update for the eyewear company since the summer, when it collaborated with the NBA for a series of team frames and joined with Colette on "The Paris," an aviator-style eyeglass frame featuring mirrored gold lenses available through the French retailer.
Westbrook, the 2014-15 NBA scoring champion and All-Star MVP, has become increasingly involved in the fashion industry. He launched a Westbrook XO Barneys New York Spring 2015 Collection in which he created pieces in partnership with Nike Jordan, Marcelo Burlon County of Milan, Naked and Famous, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, Del Toro and Globe-Trotter. He also has fashion partnerships with True Religion, LVMH/Zenith Watches, Kings and Jaxs and Jordan Brand.
Last summer, he attended Paris Fashion Week and offered a preview of his Jordan Westbrook 0 sneakers, a lifestyle shoe that was his first signature product with the Jordan Brand. He also launched Byredo Westbrook Eau de Parfum, a cologne designed in collaboration with Stockholm-based Byredo.
