Sabres GM Tim Murray describes NHL discipline in third-grader speak
The Buffalo Sabres had a rough season. They won’t be gearing up for the NHL playoffs, which start today, and are in the middle of a rebuilding process.
They did have some rough patches this year, however, and it had nothing to do with their wins and losses. In September, head coach Ron Rolston was fined in the preseason for "player selection and team conduct" after a melee broke out against Toronto.
It was a harbinger of things to come, for sure, as the Sabres (21-51-10) had a league-worst 52 points. In January, the Sabres hired Tim Murray as general manager. He has a long-term plan for success, which he mentioned in his season-ending press conference on Tuesday. He also mentioned he no longer wants to get disciplined by the NHL, putting it in third grader terms.
“Pee-pee slapped” isn’t a term you hear every day in sports, or that you’re likely to hear again. We just hope the NHL doesn’t fine him for it. It made our day.
