Salvy wins Silver Slugger award at catcher
It's been a good week for Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez on the award circuit. Two days after capturing his fourth Gold Glove as the league's best-fielding catcher, he won his first Silver Slugger, awarded to the league's top hitter at each position.
Perez becomes the first Royals catcher to win the American League's Silver Slugger Award and the team's 12th winner overall (nine players).
Perez, 26, batted .247 with a career-high 22 home runs and 64 RBIs last season, his sixth in the majors. He also matched career bests in runs scored (57), doubles (28) and walks (22). He led AL catchers in hits (127) for the fourth straight season and also led the league's catchers in doubles, homers, extra-base hits and slugging percentage (.436).
Voting by MLB managers and coaches determines Slugger Silver winners.
