Sherels signs one-year deal with Vikings
Marcus Sherels is staying in Minnesota for another season.
The Minnesota Vikings officially signed Sherels to a one-year deal on Thursday, bringing back the 30-year-old return man for a ninth season in the organization.
Sherels has appeared in 108 career NFL games, mostly as a returner and a valued member on kickoff coverage teams. He's the Vikings' all-time leader in punt return yardage (2,171) and punt return touchdowns (five). Sherels ranked seventh in the NFL last season with a 9.5 yards per return average.
Sherels has played football in Minnesota his whole life. He starred at Rochester John Marshall before walking on to the University of Minnesota. Sherels eventually earned a scholarship with the Gophers and signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2010.
