According to Rosenthal, the deal is expected to total between $55 million and $65 million over the term of the extension.

Molina is entering the final year of a five-year contract extension he signed in 2012. That deal carried through the 2017 season with a mutual option for 2018. However, the All-Star and Gold Glove catcher had stated that if he did not have a new extension by the season opener Sunday, he would not negotiate during the season and was prepared to test free agency this fall.
The deal might not make him a Cardinal forever, as he has said he would like, but would get him that much closer.
