Southern Illinois overcomes early deficit to beat SLU 65-52
ST. LOUIS -- Anthony Beane was 4 of 9 from 3-point range and scored 19 points on Monday night to help Southern Illinois overcome an early deficit in a 65-52 victory over Saint Louis.
The Salukis (11-2) trailed 31-22 with 3:24 left in the first half and outscored Saint Louis 43-21 from there, starting with a 9-2 run to close the half within two.
After Saint Louis (5-6) scored the opening basket of the second half, Southern Illinois took the lead for good with an 11-2 run capped at 42-37 on Ibby Djimde's basket. The Billikens scored four straight to get back within one and never got closer.
Sean O'Brien, Mike Rodriguez and Armon Fletcher added 10 points for Southern Illinois, which made up for 34.8 percent shooting by committing only four turnovers.
Davell Roby led Saint Louis with 14 points. Ash Yacoubou added 12 and Mike Crawford scored 11.
