StaTuesday: Dubnyk already rewriting Wild record books

Just seven games into his second full season with the Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk is already rewriting the franchise record books.

With his 29-save win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday, Dubnyk became the first goalie in franchise history to rack up three consecutive shutouts.

Dubnyk broke his previous personal record at 6:50 of the third period Saturday, and has made a whopping 94 saves since the streak began.

It's the longest such streak by any team since then-St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott went 198:12 without allowing a goal late last season, another three-game shutout streak.

He's now just two shutouts away from then-Arizona Coyotes goaltender Brian Boucher's modern-day NHL record of five consecutive shutouts, a streak that spanned 332 minutes (Alec Connell had a virtually untouchable seven-game shutout streak during the 1927-28 season, back when passing the puck was limited and shutouts accounted for nearly half the league's scores).

With 113 Wild games under his belt Dubnyk is already well on his way to overtaking Niklas Backstrom -- who spent nine seasons in Minnesota -- for the franchise shutouts record.

Backstrom had 28 shutouts over the course of his 209 games in a Wild uniform, one shutout every 14.6 games.

Dubnyk has upped the ante, and at 13 shutouts since joining the Wild is averaging one every eight games.

It's a remarkable turnaround for a goaltender who spent a series of listless seasons in Edmonton, before embarking on a brief phase as a journeyman, making stops in Nashville and Arizona and eventually settling in with the Wild.

Since then he's been a reliable starter, and ranks sixth in the NHL in save percentage since the beginning of the 2014-15 season, his first with the Wild.
