Steelers' Roethlisberger reveals secret to speedy recovery
Pittsburgh Steelers "backup" quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was well enough to dress for the Browns game on Sunday despite a foot injury that left him limping around practice on Friday, but gimpy enough that head coach Mike Tomlin opted to start Landry Jones. That all changed in the first quarter when Landry went down with an ankle injury.
So how the heck did Roethlisberger go from getting carted off the field one week earlier (against the Raiders) to a walking boot and an initially expected "few weeks" absence -- to a 22-of-33, 379-yard, three-touchdown passing performance?
"I drank a lot of milk," Roethlisberger explained jokingly. "It kind of surprised me and everyone else because I was in a boot. On Monday, my foot was basically black and blue. It’s more than just me. It’s the training staff – John Norwig and the doctors and everyone. We were tireless in our rehab and trying to get ready. It was a day-by-day process, and I was just telling coach how I felt."
The veteran already overcame a scare earlier in the season when his knee got twisted, resulting in an MCL sprain that forced him out of action for four games.
"The guy was literally in a boot and on crutches Monday," wide receiver Antonio Brown said of Roethlisberger. "I can't speak highly enough about him. He is a tremendous warrior. You never know what he is capable of doing."
Hey Steelers fans- does our new little addition remind you of anyone? Say hello to Baby Ben! We know which team he'll be rooting for on Sunday.
