Suns' Chandler, Booker featured in 'Rookie/Vet' digital series
Phoenix Suns center Tyson Chandler and guard Devin Booker will star in a four-episode digital series "Rookie/Vet" that debuted Wednesday on theplayerstribune.com.
Former Suns legend Steve Nash is executive producer of the show, which explores the relationship that unfolds between two athletes at different points of their careers.
"I'm really proud of Rookie/Vet, and working with The Players' Tribune to produce the series has been really fun," Nash said. "I played in the NBA for nearly 20 years and know how the experience and wisdom of a veteran can lead to a more balanced approach to life in the league. The relationship between rookies and vets is often complex, inspiring and at times trying, but at the end of the season, both athletes will be changed by the experience. I'm excited to give fans the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at that dynamic."
Booker, 19, was the Suns' first-round draft pick out of Kentucky and is the youngest player in the NBA. Chandler, 33, is a 15-year pro who debuted with the Chicago Bulls straight out of high school at age 19 and recalls being mentored by the likes of Charles Oakley and Scottie Pippen.
"I hear those guys, and now, I understand what they were talking about," Chandler said. "I find myself saying the exact same things to Devin Booker, to Brandon Knight, to T.J. Warren. And I gotta chuckle sometimes on the sideline. Damn, I sound like Oak. Damn, I sound like Pipp. And I used to make fun of these dudes. But when you're a young group, they're all sponges. They want to learn, and it's your job to teach 'em."
