Swope Park Rangers win first game with clever heel flick

Swope Park Rangers took the field for the first time on Wednesday night. The USL expansion team and Sporting Kansas City reserve side finally made its debut in a Desert Diamond Cup match against Colorado Rapids.

It’s safe to say they will remember it fondly.

This nascent side -- coached by former Ottawa Fury manager Marc dos Santos and comprised of players hoping to push their way into MLS -- claimed a 3-1 victory on the night, but the nature of the winner proved most memorable.

Sporting KC Academy midfielder Will Little pushed forward on the right and swung a cross toward the near post. Alberto Sanchez met the cross with a spinning flick to turn the ball inside the far post and procure the eventual winner.

Sanchez, by the way, is a former Sporting KC Academy player competing for a contract during training camp. Is scoring the first winning goal in club history enough to win him a deal?
