Ted Cruz called it a 'basketball ring'
On a campaign stop in Indiana, presidential hopeful Ted Cruz attempted to woo a few voters by re-enacting a scene from "Hoosiers," and it was all going swimmingly, right up until he called it a "basketball ring."

A basketball ring.
In the Hoosiers gym.
While quoting "Hoosiers."
That's not even one of those foul-ups you can chalk up to time. It's never been called a basketball "ring." It's been a "hoop" since dunking was illegal in "roundball" games and baskets were literal, thatched baskets.
Even so, Cruz isn't the first to be hoisted by his own sports references. Two months before the 2008 election, John Kerry referred to the Green Bay Packers' home stadium as "Lambert" Field. Just two weeks ago, Donald Trump asked a crowd in Pittsburgh how Joe Paterno was doing.
Joe Paterno passed away four whole years ago.
