Texas lands five-star Baylor recruit Devin Duvernay
Well, it turns out Charlie Strong’s 2016 recruiting class was even better than anyone of us thought.
On Wednesday, Texas got a late present when five-star Devin Duvernay, a blazing fast wideout, committed to UT.
"(I'm) going to Texas," Duvernay told ESPN. "I just feel like they are coming up, and feel good about Charlie Strong and his staff's plan and they are going to turn this thing around. I feel like Coach Sterlin Gilbert is kind of the missing piece to help out the offense. I feel like he can add me in, and add some speed to the receiving core."
The 5-11, 200-pounder had signed with Baylor but had re-opened his recruitment in the wake of the sexual assault scandal that cost Art Briles his job. Unlike other Class of 2016 BU signees who have been seeking a release to go to some other college, Duveray’s LOI was declared invalid, making him able to look elsewhere.
Duvernay, who last winter Briles called the fastest football recruit in the country, has been timed at 10.27 in the 100-meter. Duvernay’s big-play potential should help a very young UT passing game as it adapts to the new scheme of offensive coordinator Gilbert, a Briles disciple.
Also, Texas still has more scholarship space available regarding the potential moves of the other Baylor signees looking for their releases.
