Texas to pay former AD Steve Patterson nearly $3 million
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The University of Texas will pay former athletic director Steve Patterson nearly $3 million.
According to documents released by the school Wednesday, the payments stretch through the 2016-2017 academic year and will be reduced if Patterson takes a new job.
Patterson was pressured to resign Sept. 15 after less than two years on the job, a tenure in which he alienated Texas fans and donors.
Patterson has agreed not to sue Texas and both sides also agreed not to make disparaging comments about each other. He also agreed to help any Big 12 or NCAA investigation into rules violations. Texas is currently investigating possible academic misconduct in the men's basketball program several years ago.
