The Soundtrack to UFC 174: Johnson vs. Bagauntinov - the walkout songs

UFC 174 won't go down in history as one of the greatest cards of all time although there were a few standout performances. The fighters competing in Vancouver did manage a very eclectic mix of walkout songs as well ranging from T.I. all the way to Carl Douglas and everything in between.

The walkout song police (aka UFC officials) even intervened to prevent one fighter from using his chosen music, but it didn't stop him from getting the win on Saturday night.

At the top of the card was flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson with his regular choice for walkout music "Go Get It" by T.I. While Johnson is a big fan of music from all kinds of different genres (he's a huge Coheed & Cambria fan), this track has been his favorite walkout song for a few fights now.

The track by T.I. was produced by T-Minus, a famous hip-hop and R&B producer who hails from Canada, so Johnson quietly played to the home country crowd (although it's doubtful anyone even knew T-Minus produced the track much less that he was Canadian).

Unfortunately, Ali Bagautinov's walkout song wasn't recognizable in the arena on Saturday night but thankfully Canadian co-main eventer Rory MacDonald brought the thunder with his walkout song choice.

For the second fight in a row, MacDonald used a track from the godfathers of metal, Metallica, this time going with a more modern track -- "St-Anger" from the 2003 album of the same name. In his last bout, MacDonald went with the classic song "Seek and Destroy" from the first ever Metallica record 'Kill Em All'.

This title track from Metallica was on the final album the band produced with long time collaborator Bob Rock, who started working with the group during the 1991 black album. The album also marked the first work the band did with new bass player Robert Trujillo, who is still with the group to this day.

Now here's where the controversy for the fight card happened.

Top 10 ranked light heavyweight Ryan Bader chose the song "The Whistler" from alt-country artist The White Buffalo as his walkout track -- it was the same song he used when he fought Glover Teixeira in Brazil. But as Bader hit the tunnel about to walk out to the Octagon, UFC officials informed him that the song was nixed at the last minute and they had to go with his backup choice 'Paint It Black' by The Rolling Stones.

Bader told FOX Sports after the fights that he wasn't sure why the UFC opted to make the change, especially considering he had used the song previously for his walkout in Brazil. Either way, we will pay homage here because the track is just that good!

The White Buffalo (real name Jake Smith) is a favorite artist featured on the hit FX show 'Sons of Anarchy' and this track later released on his 2013 album "Shadows, Greys and Evil Ways" actually came out months earlier so it could be featured in a scene on the popular outlaw biker drama.

In episode 12 of season five of 'Sons of Anarchy' as lead character Jax Teller plots to sabotage his ex-wife's sobriety and threats to take away their son, The White Buffalo wails in the background of the powerful scene. The track was released as a single and then as part of the concept album by The White Buffalo following two young lovers named Joe and Jolene through the many trials and tribulations of their relationship.

Since it didn't play during the UFC broadcast, we'll give it to you here to check out instead.

Brendan Schaub came up on the wrong end of a bad judges' decision in his fight against Andrei Arlovski, but he was a big winner with his choice of walkout music on Saturday night. The former Ultimate Fighter finalist chose the track 'Victory" by Puff Daddy and the Notorious BIG to use for his walkout song, and it remains one of the best and most well known tracks from the legendary rapper from Brooklyn, New York.

Maybe the most tragic part about this amazing song is the fact that these are the final verses Biggie recorded before his shooting death in 1997.

The song samples the track "Going the Distance" by Bill Conti from the original soundtrack to the film 'Rocky'.

One final special shout out during this walkout song edition for UFC 174 goes to Tae Hyun Bang for his choice - 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' by legendary composer Ennio Morricone from the soundtrack to the movie of the same name.

Whether you've scene the classic western starring Clint Eastwood or not, there's virtually no chance you haven't heard this title track at some point. It's one of those instrumental movie songs that cross over age groups and social boundaries and just remains an iconic piece of cinematic music history.

There are no lyrics, but just enjoy the mastery of Morricone at work on this one.
