The Soundtrack to UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier - the walkout songs
One of the best changes in the art of the walkout song in the UFC in the past couple of years is the inclusion of the mash-up track.
For instance -- Conor McGregor routinely walks to the Octagon with the opening verse to the track 'The Foggy Dew' by Sinead O'Conner and The Chieftans before the music drops and rolls right into the song 'Hypnotize' by The Notorious B.I.G.
For his last few fights, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been practicing the art of the mash-up as well with 50 Cent and Bob Marley and on Saturday night he mixed things up with an opening by Nelly's song 'Hot in Herre' before the remix kicked in to the Jadakiss song 'The Champ is Here'.
It seems like a pretty fitting song for the greatest champion currently reigning in the UFC and the combination of the different tracks is a fun way to switch things up, especially for a fighter like Jones, who has a longer walk to the Octagon considering the cameras follow him from dressing room all the way to the cage, which takes a few minutes.
Hopefully it's still a special occasion when these mash-ups happen, but kudos to the champ Jon Jones for pulling off a fun one on Saturday night for his fight at UFC 182.
Jones' opponent, Daniel Cormier, stuck to his Louisiana roots with his walkout song from local favorite Lil' Wayne -- who has often tweeted out his support for the UFC light heavyweight contender. While the fight didn't go his way on Saturday night, Cormier still has to appreciate the love he gets from all of the people back home in Cajun country.
Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone fights so often that fans should probably have his walkout song memorized by this point. His song of choice is always 'Cowboy' by Kid Rock and much like Urijah Faber, who is forever stuck with the song 'California Love' by Tupac and Dr. Dre, there's little chance Cerrone will ever be able to change his music either.
Brad Tavares walked to the Octagon to the track 'Tears (After Laughter Comes Tears)" by reggae artist Alborosie. The song samples the track 'After Laughter Comes Tears" by Wendy Rene and whether Tavares did it on purpose or not, it was a fitting tribute because Rene passed away on December 16, 2014
A little further down the card, Evan Dunham decided to go for a walkout song favorite when he used the track 'Dead Wrong' by The Notorious B.I.G. and Eminem. It's two of the biggest favorites for UFC walkout songs combined into one track.
