Thielen named to first Pro Bowl, 4 Vikings selected
Former undrafted free agent Adam Thielen is headed to the Pro Bowl.
The Detroit Lakes native joins linebacker Anthony Barr, defensive end Everson Griffen and Xavier Rhodes on this year’s roster. The selection is the third such honor for Barr and Griffen, while Rhodes was named to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season.
It’s a major accomplishment for Thielen, the first Vikings pass-catcher to top 1,000 yards in a single season since 2009. He ranks second in the NFL with 83 receptions and third with 1,191 receiving yards.
Barr has 67 tackles (47 solo), eight tackles for loss, six passes defensed, four quarterback hits and one sack on the season. Griffen has a career-high 13 sacks this season, and is the first Vikings’ defensive end to make three straight Pro Bowls since Chris Doleman from 1987-90. Rhodes has put together an impressive resume this season, and leads a secondary that has allowed just 215.8 passing yards per game this season.
