Tim Cahill, Eddie Johnson among big names left exposed ahead of MLS Expansion Draft
Major League Soccer clubs today announced their available and protected player lists for Wednesday's Expansion Draft.
Orlando City and New York City FC will continue building their rosters for their inaugural MLS seasons in 2015, and a number of intriguing names will be available.
Among some of the more high-profile names available are Eddie Johnson (D.C. United), Rais Mbolhi (Philadelphia Union), Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls), Kenny Cooper (Seattle), Dominic Oduro (Toronto), Peguy Luyindula (New York Red Bulls), Davy Arnaud (D.C. United), Donovan Ricketts (Portland Timbers) and Ned Grabavoy (Real Salt Lake).
Revolution attacker Diego Fagundez was on the non-protected list, but club president Brian Bilello announced on Twitter that his team executed a deal to keep Fagundez in New England.
If two players are claimed from a team's non-protected list, that team is eliminated from the expansion draft and may not lose any further players. In addition, once a player has been claimed from a club's non-protected roster, that club may move a player from its non-protected roster to its protected roster.
