Timberwolves waive three, roster at 15 players

The Minnesota Timberwolves whittled their roster to 15 Saturday by waiving three players, guard Lorenzo Brown, center Kleon Penn and guard Nick Wiggins. The team must set its 15-man opening roster by Monday.

Brown, a second-round pick by Minnesota in 2013 was signed by the Wolves last season to a 10-day contract on Jan. 28. He averaged 4.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 13.1 minutes over five preseason contests. The 6-foot-5 guard appeared in 29 games last season for the Wolves averaging 4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 18.9 minutes per game.

Penn, who played in Puerto Rico last season and last played collegiately in 2009 for McNeese State, appeared in three preseason games totaling one rebound in nine minutes.

Wiggins, the older brother of Andrew Wiggins, went to Wichita State and played in the NBDL and Germany last season. He played in four preseason contests registering seven points in 14 minutes.
